When backing fire apparatus, where does the spotter stand?
The best answer for this is to have two members dismount the
apparatus and act as spotters. The
spotters should take positions on each behine and on each side of the apparatus
in a position so that they can see the driver.
In the case where one spotter is used, that spotter should be to the right and behind the apparatus so that the driver can see him in his right mirror and so that the spotter can see the driver in the right mirror. The driver is responsible for the LEFT side of the apparatus and the spotter ensures that the driver clears all obstacles on the RIGHT side of the rig.
