– Excessive speed appears to be the cause of a traffic accident in which two people were killed Sunday night, police said.
Javier Quiroz Garcia, 25, was driving a white 1995 Chevrolet  Camaro an estimated 66 mph on a stretch of Westchester Drive where the speed limit is 45 mph when he lost control of the car, veered across the road and collided with a delivery truck in the oncoming lane, according to High Point police.
Garcia, of 238 Phillips Ave., and his  front-seat passenger, Miguel Sandora, 22, of 135 Shell Drive in Greensboro, were killed instantly, police said.
The driver of the truck, Stephen Joseph  Lentini, 41, of Longcreek Drive, complained of soreness and was treated and released from High Point Regional Hospital, police said. According to police, Garcia was driving east on Westchester Drive around 9 p.m., when, as he approached Phillips Avenue, a car pulled out of the Westchester Commons shopping center into traffic, and Garcia swerved to avoid the car.
“Because  Garcia was going so fast, he had to swerve to avoid (the car),” said Lt. Angela Tackett, a police spokeswoman. “The car was not at fault that pulled out.” After swerving, the Camaro went into an out-of-control skid and crossed the middle turn lane of the road into oncoming traffic, police said. The driver’s side of the car slammed into a 2001 GMC Party Rental Source delivery truck that was traveling westbound.
No charges are expected to be filed in connection  with the wreck.
