HIGH POINT – In the home stretch of the annual fundraising drive,
United Way
of Greater High Point leaders are cautiously optimistic about the campaign’s
success.
The 2006 campaign goal is $ 4.2 million. So far, about $ 2.8 million
has been raised, said Bobby Smith, agency president.
“I think we can see that we can be successful if people who normally
respond do like they have traditionally and companies tell us they’re exactly
where we expect they are. I think we can be successful,” Smith said.
That success got a big boost from its largest campaign donor Tuesday.
The city of High Point
raised $ 245,000 in its campaign, an increase of about two percent from last
year, Smith said.
“They really do a great job. We really appreciate what they do for us
every year,” Smith said.
Campaign efforts will continue at full speed through Thanksgiving with
loaned executives finishing up their work to secure donations from companies
participating, Smith said.
Between Thanksgiving the year’s end agency leaders and staff will be
tracking the results of those companies and taking care of last-minute
donations.
At the end of January, United
Way will announce the fundraising total.
“There really haven’t been too many surprises. All in all, it’s been
a fairly normal, sort of routine campaign so far,” Smith said.
