HIGH POINT – An earlymorning fire damaged
an apartment building in the city Monday.
Firefighters were called to the 800 building in the Chatham Woods apartment
complex, located on Lakecrest Avenue, off Johnson
Street in north High Point, just before 5:30 a.m. and discovered the blaze
near an upper-floor unit.
Apartment occupants evacuated the building and firefighters had the blaze
under control fairly quickly, said Capt. Denita
Lynch of the High Point
Fire Department.
No injuries were reported, although damage from the incident was expected to
displace some of the tenants.
The occupants of at least two apartments adjoining the one where the fire
broke out were not home at the time of the incident.
Fire damage was limited to one apartment, though three others were damaged by
smoke and/or water. The damage was expected to displace occupants from three
or four units.
The cause of the fire was under investigation Monday. Lynch said she didn’t
know in what part of the apartment the fire may have originated.
Three cars in the building’s parking lot were damaged by heat from the fire,
officials said.
