Bomb scare closes Main Street
 Police blow up suspicious  package

 HIGH POINT 
– A suspi­cious package had police on alert Saturday after­noon.
 Officers were called to a UPS drop box near  319 N. Main St. by witnesses re­porting a suspicious pack­age hanging out of the top. According to a statement, initial reports indicated the package was possibly a bomb.
 High Point police cor­doned off the downtown area along  Main Street, stretching from Church Av­enue to Kivett Drive, and rerouted traffic for about four hours.
 The Greensboro Bomb Squad examined the  pack­age before detonating it as a safety precaution, police said.
  Investigators are examin­ing the contents of the pack­a g e.
